Hypertension
Hypertension can be caused by so many diverse influences, the Ayurveda assessment of balance and imbalance of Dosas and Dhatus does not simply identify the gross physical abnormality and match up drugs to a symptom. This is because people can have the same disorder for different reasons.
In Ayurveda evaluation determines the imbalances in the functioning modes of the body. This is basically governed by Chakras along with Tridose. These underlying imbalances are the root causes of a condition and must be removed if real healing is to occur. By determining the causal imbalances at the basis of a disorder, the Ayurveda Health Consultant can address the fundamental source of ill health in the individual.
Since hypertension can be influenced by many factors, such as diet, digestion, toxin accumulation, stress, exercise levels and daily routine, the Ayurveda approach to the condition is a comprehensive one that balances many physiological functions simultaneously.
The Root Causes of Hypertension
According to Ayurveda, the following are the general types of imbalances responsible for most chronic conditions, including hypertension:
1. Due to imbalance of TRIDOSH the toxins accumulating in tissues and blocking circulation.
2. Due to imbalance of Vata poor nutrition.
3. Due to imbalance of Pitta poor digestion.
4. Due to imbalance of Vata, imbalance of the nervous system.
5. Due to imbalance of Vata accumulation of physical and mental stress.
6. Due to imbalance of Due to imbalance in TRIDOSH lowering of natural resistance and immunity.
7. Due to imbalance of TRIDOSH disruption of natural biological rhythms.
The common modern medical approach that matches drugs to symptoms does not completely address many of these factors. As a result, modern medicine often cannot fully remove the disorder and the condition becomes chronic. Chronic means that the condition persists over time even with the best modern medical treatment.
Heart Disease
In Ayurvedic texts ample knowledge on the disease is available. In both Charak and Susruta Samhitas there is a mention of five types of heart disease eg. Vatika, Paittika, Kafaj, Tridoshaj and krimij i.e. related to Vata, Pitta, Kafa triple doshas and produces from worms. Mostly Angina has been discussed in Madhava compiled and Susruta endorsed texts. Hridrog Prakarana has a mention of certain types of heart disease. It appears that many kinds of heart related diseases have been included under Vat-induced inflammation and respiratory disease on the ground of similarity of symptoms. Only when acute pain or shool is predominant it is covered under Heart Disease, where inflammation is acute it is covered under Vatika shoth and where uneasiness in respiration is acute, it is covered under Shwas Rog. Mention in Charak’s text on heart disease is quite elaborate.
